Anaheim’s 21st Annual Nutcracker Christmas Tree Lighting & Holiday Village

Kick off the holiday season at the 21st Annual Nutcracker Christmas Tree Lighting and Holiday Shopping Village on Saturday, December 5 in Downtown Anaheim on Center Street Promenade from 10:00am to 7:00pm. This FREE event features holiday craft activities, a real snow play area, a children’s train ride, free photos with Santa and holiday musical performances by local schools and community groups throughout the day.

Purchase unique gifts from the Holiday Shopping Village, as well as mom and pop Downtown Anaheim shops, and enjoy a wide variety of culinary treasures from the International Food Fair. The day is capped off with a procession down Center Street Promenade at 5:45pm. Attendees gather around the living 50-foot Christmas tree, magically lit by a surprise guest and a holiday musical performance featuring the Anaheim Ballet and Combined Choirs of the AUHSD. This event is made possible by sponsors, including the City of Anaheim, Paramount Escrow, CareMore, Health Net, Republic Services and Anaheim Public Utilities. For more information, please visit: or call (714) 956-3586.

The event spans the entire length of Center Street Promenade, with the giant redwood Christmas tree anchoring the traffic circle at the west end. The beautiful Christmas tree was a gift from the Disney Resorts and has grown about a foot each year since it was planted 19 years ago.

On October 28, 1995, a vision was born; a vision of a community bustling around in happy holiday surroundings, in a true hometown atmosphere.

The ideal place for such an experience would be what all knew as Anaheim’s old downtown on West Harbor Place. On that day in October, dreams and schemes were filling air. Activities such as horse-drawn carriage rides, choral groups and services from local places of worship, marching bands, entertainment provided by our children’s groups, and Santa arriving via one of Anaheim’s gleaming fire trucks were planned. From East to West Anaheim, something for everyone. And what a better center point would there be than to have a beautifully decorated tree at the foot of West Harbor Place for an annual tree lighting ceremony. A legacy that the children of Anaheim could experience and pass on to their children.

At that point, Anaheim’s 1st Annual Nutcracker Holiday began.

And the rest is history...
